The seminary was founded in 1566 by Cardinal Giovanni Antonio Serbelloni, Bishop of Novara.
The orginal part of the building was erected by Bishop Francesco Bossi and was later extended by Bishop Marco Aurelio Balbis Bertone.
The annexed church was refurbished in the 19th century by Stefano Ignazio Melchioni.
