The tour of the dome starts from the Compass Room, 24 metres above ground level.

It is accessed via the lift in Alfieri’s bell tower and then along the glass walkway linking it to the attics of the Basilica.

In the Compass Room you can see the actual compass Antonelli used to make the templates for the construction of the dome.

The climb then continues, through the north transept, until you reach the second balcony of the dome, at a height of over 45 metres.
