The Gallery of Modern Art, housed in the important Broletto Complex, consists of the prestigious collection donated to the City of Novara by Cavalier Alfredo Giannoni, comprising a selection of 300 works from over 900 by Italian artists of international renown.

Various Italian regional schools of art are represented, from Fontanesi, Delleani and Casorati in Piedmont to Faruffini, Bianchi, Tallone and Bazzaro in Lombardy.

The works of Giovanni Fattori and numerous paintings by Plinio Nomellimi and Lorenzo Viani represent the school of Tuscany; the school of Veneto is present through the works of Ciardi, Milesi and Fragiacomo; and for Neapolitan painting, works are preserved by Gigante, Michetti and Mancini.
